History
In 1979 Marie and Ted Sherman (Sr.) packed up and moved their five children from rural New South Wales to Queensland’s Gold Coast. The goal was to obtain jobs, a better lifestyle and security for the family. Maries Pizza was officially founded in 1982 with the first store opened at Palm Beach. From the beginning, Ted and Marie recognised the need for excellence, and a point of difference, and developed their unique pizza dough with the assistance of a world mobile casino renowned pastry chef. Toppings were (and still are) fresh and plentiful and it wasn’t long before Maries Pizza became legendary and sought out by many of the visiting rich and famous celebrities and dignitaries.
The original Maries Pizza store at Palm Beach became an iconic pizzeria and a “hang out”, much loved by the local surfers and families alike. This success demanded expansion and more Maries Pizza stores and soon the entire family was involved in every aspect of the business from dough production to management and development. The family passion resulted in total immersion in the business with everyone learning the skills, and the art, of pizza making with an unfaltering dedication to the provision of superior meal alternatives from pizzas, to ribs, pasta, salads, and more.
