Every Child Can Shine.
The Kumon Method is an individualised learning method. Each student progresses at his or her own pace and develops a self-learning ability with the support of Kumon Instructors. The worksheets have been designed in a way that allows students to figure out how to solve problems on their own with the understanding that if students continue to study at their own pace, they will catch up with their school grade level and eventually advance far beyond it.
The Kumon Method was started in 1954 by the late Chairman Toru Kumon after he successfully guided his eldest son, Takeshi to exceptional grades in his second-grade arithmetic studies. The Kumon Method that began with a father’s love for his child is now available in many countries and regions around the world. The first Kumon Centre outside of Japan was set up in New York in 1974. As of March last year, there were 4.23 million subject enrolments in 46 countries and regions.
The Kumon Method has remained consistent for over fifty years and has been accepted in many countries despite differences in lifestyle, educational system, and culture. This fact is evident of the universal nature of the Kumon Method, and it is something which Kumon treasures and takes great pride in. Kumon is suitable and supports all children around the world to achieve their goals and dreams.
Placing great importance on the ability of each student, Kumon aims to foster and nurture each individual’s character and learning potential. Having observed tens of thousands of children, Kumon strongly believes that the life skills learnt enable children to live happily and to their fullest through the achievement of their dreams and goals, with a willingness to face challenges, and with the motivation to try new things proactively and enthusiastically.
